Fresh from his campaign in the elections to the Lok Sabha, to which he is contesting for the first time, author and former UN under secretary-general Shashi Tharoor felt his lessons from these experiences could apply to young graduates as well.
Speaking at the convocation ceremony of the Great Lakes Institute of Management here on Tuesday, he urged students to strive to make a difference in whatever career they chose. “I believe that as managers you have the responsibility to think about those who are not as fortunate as you are. I had the rare privilege as a young man of working with those who have lost everything the world’s refugees. I derived a lot of satisfaction from being able to lend a hand to fmailies who has lost everything, including hope. It is a privilege to help human beings. Whatever career you choose, make a difference,” he said.
